The Indiana Department of Education has developed two of the best print resources available for evaluating where we are now, where we want to be, and how we will get there. These detailed pdf reports have rubrics to evaluate current curriculum, software programs, and excellent definitions of terms. Definitely worth printing out and sharing with all members of both a leadership team and a mapping initiative team.
Major Software Providers:
A number of educators and educational enterprises have been developing software which facilitates computer- and network-based curriculum mapping. We will add resources as more and more come online.
ALL OF THE PROGRAMS we list are reputable. Just as we list various books and resources, we also list various technology groups, leaving it to the professionals at a school to determine what will work best for them. Clearly many schools develop their own program independently.
Commercial Vendors:
Collaborative Learning Inc. (Curriculum Mapper)
Performance Pathways (TechPaths)
Rubicon International (Atlas Curriculum Mapping)
Seacliff Education Solutions (Curricuplan)
School Software Group (BuildYourOwnCurriculum)
OnHand Schools (EdInsight)
Non-Profit Developers:
David Douglas School District (David Douglas Mapping)
Developed in-house by the David Douglas School District in Portland, OR. They partner with other districts on a not-for-profit fee basis.
Greater Southern Tier NY BOCES (Mapster)
Developed by a New York state BOCES, they partner with other districts and have cost-saving arrangements with other BOCES in NY.
Santa Rosa County Schools FL (Odyssey Curriculum Mapping)
The Santa Rosa County Schools in Florida have developed their own software program for mapping called the Odyssey Curriculum Mapping Tool. Once there, anyone can view their published maps by clicking on "Search for Curriculum Maps." At that point, select a school, then a teacher, etc.
Other Resources:
Digital Portfolios
This is the work of David Niguidula in Providence, RI. While not directly Curriculum Mapping, Digital Portfolios are in essence "Individual Student Maps." Integrating student digital portfolios with mapping has been quite successful.
Newsletter Archive
Copies of past Curriculum Designers Newsletters, many of which have examples of how technology has been integrated into specific schools.
Technology Powerpoint
These are the slides we use when conducting a technology breakout session at our regional workshops. Feel free to use any of these slides to present infromation to your own faculty, administration, and school board members.
Consensus Mapping Powerpoint
While Consensus Mapping is an important step in the mapping process itself and an entire separate breakout topic, reaching consensus among the mapping leadership team is a very important step, especially as it addresses the integration of technology into the process.
Technology Self Evaluation Worksheet
An easy-to-use evaluation form to use first for self-evaluation and then to facilitate discussion and consensus among leadership team members. Slides 18-21 in the Technology Powerpoint above provide talking points for completing each of the three sections of the form. A must to get all members of the leadership team "on the same page."
