Curriculum Mapping Training of Trainers: Mapping Our Students' Futures

What are the basic tasks in Mapping? What 21st Century tools can be used to upgrade the curriculum? What organizational structures can be used to implement Mapping?

Join us in the Portland area for this two-day interactive workshop designed to help educators deepen their understanding of curriculum design for the future and learn specific strategies that can be used to implement Curriculum Mapping in a school or district. The conference will be structured around the Four Phases of Mapping highlighted in Heidi Jacobs’ and Ann Johnson’s new ASCD book, “The Curriculum Mapping Planner: Templates, Tools and Resources for Effective Professional Development.”

I. Laying the Foundation – Establishing a Prologue for Mapping, Developing a Shared Vision for Mapping, Rethinking Your Support
Structure
II. Launching the Process/Getting Started – Creating Individual Maps, Initiating the Review Process, Developing Consensus Maps, Aligning Mapping to State Standards
III. Maintaining, Sustaining, and Integrating the Mapping Process – Using the Review Process to Integrate Assessment Findings Directly in Your Map, Developing an Implementation Plan, and Integrating 21st Skills in the Maps
IV. Advanced Mapping Tasks – Updating Your Maps with 21st Century 2.0 Tools

During the conference, participants will learn how to

  • design a curriculum for the 21st Century
  • develop quality maps
  • align all components of the maps to state standards
  • update maps with 21st Century tools and skill
  • use the Review Process to impact student achievemen
  • use Mapping as a HUB to connect school improvement initiatives
  • develop a shared vision for Mapping
  • identify the support structure needed to ensure success
  • design an Implementation Plan/Map

One Day Pre-Conference: Curriculum Mapping: "The Nuts and Bolts"

Whether you are new to Mapping or wishing a refresher to deepen your understanding of Mapping, join us in Portland for this one-day Pre-conference workshop. Participants will learn about the purpose of mapping, review the elements on a map, and learn how the mapping process can impact student achievement. This pre-conference has proven an essential basis for generating a successful Mapping initiative.

Questions that will be addressed during this one-day workshop include:

  • What is Mapping?
  • Why Map?
  • What are basic tasks schools carry out with Mapping?
  • How can we launch our Mapping program successfully?
  • How do we engage our staff actively in the process?
  • How can Mapping impact student achievement?
  • How can technology support the Mapping Process?
  • How can Mapping serve as a HUB for all school improvement efforts?
Dr. Ann Johnson is currently the Director of Professional Development for CMI and a national consultant. She has trained leadership teams in developing implementation plans, a training design, and support structures to sustain short-term and long-term change. Ann co-authored a chapter on implementation in Heidi Hayes Jacobs' book, "Getting Results with Curriculum Mapping" and was featured in ASCD’s new DVD, "Getting Results with Curriculum Mapping." She and Heidi have co-authored a training manual "Professional Development for Curriculum Mapping: Training Modules and Maps for Effective Implementation" to be
published by ASCD late this fall.

Jeanne Tribuzzi is the Director of Language Arts, ESL and Foreign Language in the West Seneca Central School District in West Seneca, NY. She has served in a variety of roles in the West Seneca district for the past 17 years as a primary teacher, a middle school English teacher, the Director of Staff Development and is currently the ELA Director.

Jeanne began mapping three years ago and is helping to lead that work in the district. She lives in Orchard Park, NY with her family.

Greg Lind has experience as a classroom teacher, ELL teacher, and technology coordinator. He has coached
teachers and administrators across the country in integrating 21st Century Skills in their maps by upgrading their activities and
assessments with 2.0 web tools.
